Change of Farmings Landscape

Here is corn at 55mph.... Then there is how farmers are expanding their land... They can't afford to purchase new land for expansion...So they utilize what they already have, pieces of wet land, hedgerows and woodlots.
This photo is now a common sight around here. It makes me sad to see them knocking out hedgerows, Ive walked many over the years on a lot of different farms and you may say whats the big deal, its a hedgerow....
But they are so much more... they are like walking thru a history of that farm...some are full of rocks, rock walls that were original fences for the farm, some are full of old dumping sites that give host to some amazing finds, bits of china, old bottles and old machinery that was once pulled by horses. They provided shade on the long days in the field and when its time for lunch. I hate to see them disappearing from the landscape... I understand, but I hate it....

Does Kind of change the way we see or past doesnt it. The woods across from where i grew up were recently "logged" and its sad to me to see a open grassy hill where a beautifull stand of trees used to be

Until the economy took a downturn lots of farmers around here 'sold-out'!

I grew up in Eckert. Eckert and Cedaredge were full of two types of agriculture--orchards and ranchers. Starting in 1990 we saw a huge amount of rich people moving in buying up the ranches and orchards until today only one real orchardist exists and I'm not sure there really is a true rancher anymore. BUT we have lots of subdivisions and macmansions!

Hi hun,

Yep it is sad :( ..Locally there was a huge old apple orchard with over hundreds of old types of apple trees it was sold and divided up to build houses.. Nowadays you are pushed to find 15 types of English apples to buy... It makes you wonder what the future holds...That's why I will fight tooth and nail to keep my little piece of rented government land with my organic veggies *GRIN*!.(A large supermarket chain is trying to buy the government land to build a superstore on it!).
