Death trap: 1968 Chevy 4 door....

So what is a 1968 death trap you may ask? Well, to us it was the family car....

Did you know that the car's we grew up riding in had seat belts? That worked? I was never secured in a seat belt... I just thought they were buttons to play with... Like when we were trying to beam each other out of the car, while playing space ship...

My parents mode of transportation was well, sad, but hey....it was the best they could do and it makes for some really great stories...

See, it truly is amazing compared to today's safety standards of travel for kids that we made it to adulthood alive, let alone not maimed... We were always jumping around in the back seat, laying in the window, licking the windows, leaving snot trails down the windows... why use Kleenex when you had a perfectly good window..... Kleenex cost money! Sometimes I think snot was holding the dang thing together....

See my mom's car didn't have a floor in the back.... That's right.... no floor.... so as we were going down the road, you could see it, just like those glass bottom boat rides.... only down side was in the summer and road kill.... could get a little ripe back there in the backseat of the Chevy. Pot holes could prove to be a problem too, splash up into the car, but usually missed us because we were jumping around, whew.... that was close.... once in a while you would get a rock that would bounce up in there, smack us... and the faceless mass of hair in the front would retort "See if you had been sitting down that would have missed you".... Thanks MA!

But the fun all ended one day when we were driving down the road and the faceless mass of hair in the front seat started to sink and the rest of the floor gave way and her bum was dragging on the ground, throwing sparks..... to say that really burned her ass was an understatement..... I had no idea until that day that my daddy was "that son of a bitch", didn't know what it meant, but I knew it was bad.

The next death trap was called the "banana boat".... It had a floor but it was so yellow that you could pick it out on top of the mountain... Made the mountain look like a lighthouse...
